Municipal Water in Mexico

Wastewater treatment plant (MBBR) to reuse sanitary water for irrigation of municipal parks.
MBBR (Moving Bed Bioreactor) wastewater treatment plant for a public park in the municipality of San Pedro Garza García in the state of Nuevo León. They rehabilitated a space of more than 6 thousand m2 and through the wastewater treatment plant they seek to sustain, feed and protect the area.
CHALLENGE
Build a water treatment plant capable of reusing sanitary water from homes and businesses surrounding the park. The water treatment plant had to meet the requested requirements of a minimum visual impact, that it did not generate bad odor, that it did not make noise and above all, it complied with the Official Mexican Standard NOM-003-SEMARNAT-1997, which establishes the maximum permissible limits of contaminants for treated wastewater that is reused in public services.
SOLUTION
The plant began operating in April 2021 and is designed to treat 10 liters per second. It has a removal efficiency of 95.8% of contaminants from water and you can have direct contact, making it safe water for irrigation, but not for human consumption. The treatment process consists of 3 sumps that are filled with sanitary water that pass to a clarifying tank to separate the sludge from the water, following its treatment through a chlorine disinfection system and finally passing through zeolite filter media to remove solids that have been suspended. The water is used to irrigate the municipal parks, replacing well water.
